Testimonial for the 5-day EDS DBA Research Workshop in Southern Luzon State University, Lucban, Philippines

It was my great pleasure to have an opportunity to take 5 day DBA Research Methodology Workshop as held by EDS Advance Academy on behalf of Southern Lucban State University in Lucban, Phillipines. This workshop is of top importance for both academicians and practice managers/directors who want to enhance their advanced multi-purpose writing skills. Normally, most of people feel bored with research subject, however, with this DBA methodology workshop, all candidates are exited for active learning and participations. Everything including hand-out, documents, facilities, and professors is very impressive and really good.

After the DBA Research Methodology workshop, we, classmates did have deep insight on research methodology skills. We learnt a lot, did a lot of exercises, shared exprience and then did review. I can say that this is the first time I have attended such interesting and meaningful workshop. I truly believe that anyone pursuing a doctorate program will get a lot of benefits from this workshop.

I strongly recommend for DBA students/practitioners should take this DBA workshop.

Again, thanks to EDS team, it was so great to know and learn from professors, lecturers, and students from various countries, and enjoy the time in Phillipines.

Yours sincerely,

Grand Celebration in Penang

A walk down city's history lane

THE STAR Saturday July 26, 2008

CELEBRATIONS in George Town kicked off yesterday as Penangites celebrated their state capital's successful listing as a Unesco World Heritage Site jointly with Malacca.

The three-day party started off with Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, state officials, non-governmental organisation (NGO) representatives and media members taking a walk down George Town's historic streets.

The Street of Harmony Walk started at the century-old Town Hall at the Esplanade, after which the group made a short pit stop at the Logan Memorial – a tribute to 19th century lawyer and ethnologist James Richardson Logan – before proceeding down Lebuh Light to the Church of the Assumption.

The delegation got the attention of students of Convent Light Street, the oldest girls' school in South-East Asia, who welcomed the officials with waves and cheers.

Looking ahead:With its rich history,George Town is on the threshold of a great future following its successful listing as a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Protective figures:Door murals depicting temple guardians at the Penang Teowchew Association.

Intricate jewel:Among the places the group visited was the Han Jiang Ancestral Temple on Chulia Street.

Timeless scene:Devotees praying at the Goddess of Mercy Temple.

Rich legacy:The visitors taking in the sights of Masjid Kapitan Keling.

"We're excited about the listing and we hope it can make Penang famous worldwide," said Form Four student Evelyn Mok, 16.

"We'd love it if more tourists come to see the heritage sites and our school," she said.

Joining in the walk was Penang Bishop Antony Selvanayagam.

"The recent listing recognises that in Penang, all ethnic groups accept one another and respect each other's beliefs and cultures.

"This is George Town's true treasure and the listing is a credit to the harmony we have managed to build," he said.

After being treated to music performed on the church's pipe organ, the group walked past the Penang Museum to St George's Church in Lebuh Farquhar.

There was a blessing by vicar Rev Joel Leow inside the beautiful 1818 Georgian Palladian style Anglican church, the first to be built in South-East Asia.

The walkers then made their way to Kuan Yin Teng or Goddess of Mercy Temple, the first Chinese temple to be built in the state, and then to Sri Maha Mariamman Temple where they were greeted with festive tunes from a nadeswaran (Indian trumpet).

The Han Jiang Ancestral Temple in Lebuh Chulia, built in 1870, was the next stop on the stroll. There, the visitors admired the delicate panels decorated with bas-reliefs in the black and gold rear hall.

"We're very happy with the Unesco listing as this will encourage more tourists to come and learn the value of our culture.

"After all, doesn't our culture now belong to everyone?" said Penang Teochew Association chairman Ooi Soo Hing.

A stone throw's away lay Masjid Kapitan Keling where many walkers took their first step into a mosque.

"Not many people are aware that all visitors can come and learn about our culture. In fact, this mosque provides guided tours for all visitors.

"Understanding is the bridge to tolerance and this is the way we enhance our unity," said Islamic Propagation Society Inter- national Malaysia president Kamarudin Abdullah.

He showed visitors around the mosque, Penang's first that was built in the late 1700s by the Indian Muslim community.

The walk ended at the Acheen Street Mosque where the group was briefed on the mosque's rich history as the focal point in the spread of Islam in the state.

"Everyone wants to be a witness and a part of history, but we in George Town can proudly say that we own a piece of history," Lim said when launching the walk.

The heritage celebrations over the weekend include kolam decorating, open houses at the clan jetties, dendang asli boria performances as well as a magical fireworks display during the official declaration on the world heritage status by the Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas at the Esplanade at 8.30pm tonight.

Penang Municipal Council president Datuk Zainal Rahim Seman, who also went on the walk, said the celebration was fully sponsored by private companies and NGOs.

THE STAR, Tuesday July 8, 2008

GEORGE TOWN:
The historical sites of George Town and Malacca have finally been listed as World Heritage Sites – a much sought after listing by nations across the globe.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) accorded the two cities the status yesterday when the Paris-based World Heritage Council met in Quebec, Canada.

The recognition will see historical and cultural properties in both cities to be listed on the Unesco World Heritage List.

Malaysia had been bidding for the prestigious listing since 2004.

The core areas encompass the historical sites of George Town, including the Lebuh Acheh historical enclave and sites such as the Lebuh Acheh Malay Mosque, Jalan Mesjid Kapitan Kling Mosque, the Goddess of Mercy Temple, Sri Mariamman Temple, Khoo Kongsi, St George’s Church, Assumption Church, St Xavier’s Institution, Convent Light Street, Little India, the museum and court building, the commercial area of Beach Street, Fort Cornwallis, Esplanade, City Hall, the clan jetties and the port areas.

In Malacca, the historical sites near the St Paul’s Hill, the 17th century Dutch Stadhuys buildings, Jonker Street with its Dutch-era buildings, Jalan Tukang Besi, Kampung Morten and Malacca River have been recognised as part of the world heritage sites.
Penang Tourism Development, Cultural, Arts and Heritage Committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang said a state representative who were following the meeting in Canada informed them of the success bid yesterday evening.

“Listing George Town and Malacca on the World Heritage List would definitely help to boost the tourism in both states in a long run.”

Former Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said the success in the bid is a boost to multiculturalism and tourism for Malaysia.
